Welcome to

   Katie's Closet

Bringing Comfort to Children in Need

In the span of a year, Katie and her sister, Haylie, were both hospitalized for several days.  In both cases, volunteers came into their rooms to cheer them up.

Some brought stickers, coloring books, crayons or toys and others went so far as to dress up as clowns or purple dinosaurs.  All were very loving in their attempts to keep the girls minds off of their cirumstances and shine a bit of light in what can be an overwhelming and scary place for a child.  It made a huge impact on their spirits and provided so much comfort!

Because the nurses are the caregivers in constant contact with the children in their care, we feel that they are best suited to be able to gauge when a child is down, bored or just needs a bit of cheering up, day or night.

We would like to offer area hospitals an armoire, Katie's Closet, that nurses can go to and pick out a new toy, craft or other special treat for a child who may need a little boost during their hospitalization.

This year, our goal is to place a Katie's Closet in at least five area hospitals and keep them fully stocked throughout the year.  We are going to start out in our local hospitals throughout San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country.  Our ultimate goal is to be able to branch out statewide, nationwide and perhaps even worldwide in the future.

It seems like a simple goal and yet, it's the simplest of things that can sometimes really make a difference in the life of a child undergoing medical care.

We hope that you will be able to help us comfort a child in need.  One child at a time.  Thank you!
